ASBESTOS REMOVAL IN DETAIL

Professional Asbestos Removal Services in Essex

Asbestos was used in thousands of Essex homes, schools, farms and commercial units built before 2000. Not every material carries the same risk or needs the same approach.

Below is what we remove, who we work for, and how each job is planned, carried out and signed off in line with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Materials we remove

The material, its condition and how much of it there is decide whether work is non-licensed, notifiable non-licensed or licensed. We confirm which applies before quoting.

  • Typically non-licensed

    Asbestos cement sheets and roofs

Corrugated and flat cement sheets on roofs, walls, sheds and outbuildings. Usually non-licensed work when the material is in reasonable condition and removed with low-disturbance methods.

  • Typically non-licensed

    Garages and garage roofs

Prefab and sectional garages often have cement roof sheets, wall panels or both. We can remove the roof only or the full structure, with the base as an option.

  • Typically non-licensed

    Gutters, downpipes and soffits

Cement rainwater goods, soffits, flues and water tanks are removed whole where possible to keep fibre release to a minimum.

  • Assessed case by case

    Floor tiles and textured coatings

Vinyl and thermoplastic floor tiles, bitumen adhesives and Artex style coatings. The right method depends on condition, the extent of the area and how the material is bonded.

  • Usually licensed work

    Insulating board and pipe insulation

Asbestos insulating board (AIB), pipe lagging and sprayed coatings are higher-risk materials. Most of this work is licensable and must be undertaken by an HSE-licensed contractor, with notification and controls appropriate to the job.

For homeowners and landlords

Most domestic jobs involve garages, sheds, roof sheets, soffits, floor tiles or textured ceilings found during renovation or flagged on a homebuyer survey. We plan around access, neighbours and whether the property is occupied, and explain clearly what can stay in place safely and what should come out.

Landlords receive the paperwork needed for their records and for tenants or letting agents. If you do not know whether a material contains asbestos, arrange asbestos testing before disturbing it.

For commercial property managers

Offices, warehouses, retail units, farms and schools often need removal phased around trading hours, occupied areas and other contractors. We work from your asbestos register or a refurbishment and demolition survey, agree a written method and programme, and coordinate any licensed elements and analyst visits.

Duty holders get a clear record of what was removed and where it went, helping them update their asbestos register and management plan after the work.

How a removal job runs

  1. Assessment and testing

We look at photos or visit site. Where the material is unknown, samples go to a UKAS-accredited laboratory, or a survey is arranged for larger works.

  2. Written scope and quote

You receive a fixed price setting out what will be removed, how, and whether the work is non-licensed, notifiable or licensed.

  3. Preparation and controls

The work area is isolated and sheeted. Controlled wetting, suitable RPE and PPE, and decontamination arrangements are put in place before anything is disturbed.

  4. Removal and packaging

Materials are taken down whole where possible, wrapped or double-bagged, sealed and labelled as hazardous waste.

  5. Transport and disposal

As a registered waste carrier, we transport sealed waste to an authorised third-party disposal facility permitted to accept asbestos.

  6. Handover documentation

You receive the hazardous waste consignment note and, where required, the independent clearance certificate.

Compliance with CAR 2012

All work follows the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSE guidance: risk assessment and plan of work, trained operatives, exposure controls and correct waste handling. Notifiable non-licensed work is notified to the enforcing authority and recorded.

Waste carrier registration is not an HSE licence

Our Environment Agency waste carrier registration covers transporting asbestos waste. Licensed asbestos removal is a separate HSE requirement for higher-risk materials such as most AIB, lagging and sprayed coatings. We will always tell you which category your job falls into.

Disposal, paperwork and independent analysts

Waste goes to authorised third-party facilities, never general skips. You keep the consignment note for your disposal records. Where four-stage clearance is required, an independent UKAS-accredited analyst assesses the work area and issues a certificate of reoccupation only after it passes.

Unsure which category your material falls into? Book asbestos testing, check our guide prices, excluding VAT, or send us a photo and your postcode to discuss a quote. Photos help us assess your enquiry but cannot confirm whether a material contains asbestos.

Excellent ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 based on 309 reviews Google Reviews

Sharon and Kieran were very helpful and professional, arranging to inspect the loft in our new property after our survey flagged up some potential asbestos. Upon arrival Kieran identified that actually there was no need for samples to be taken, and refused to charge us for the visit. Good honest people - would highly recommend their services.
